Catator Joins Horizon Project Micro-Bio-CHP
The Horizon Europe project Micro-Bio-CHP represents a leap towards the future of renewable energy, aiming to achieve near energy autonomy for multi-family buildings through an innovative system for heat and electricity supply.
The project integrates a novel biomass micro-CHP technology based on an updraft gasifier, a new gas cleaning system, and a state-of-the-art PV system. Some of the technological highlights include:
- Flexible partitioning of the product gas for utilisation in the SOFC for electricity production and in a gas burner for heat production.
- A novel and compact gas cleaning system
- New highly efficient and durable stack units.
- A novel compact SOFC system with integrated HCl and H2S removal reactors.
The project aims to achieve overall efficiencies of more than 90% with a 2.5 kWel SOFC and a 15 kW wood pellet gasifier. By the end of the project, we aim to reach a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 5.
The project is coordinated by Windhager Zentralheizung Technik GmbH and includes partners such as BIOS Bioenergiesysteme GmbH, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Angewandten Forschung EV Institut für Ceramic Technologien und Systeme IKTS, Hysytech SRL, INERGIO Technologies SA, and Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie gGmbH.
